2008 Shimano Stradic 6000 FI and 8000 FI Spinning Reels
Hi,
The new 2008 Shimano Stradic Reels have just been released. Up until now, only the smaller sizes were available. Now the larger 6000 and 8000 Stradics are available. Here's the link:
2008 Shimano Stradic Spinning Reels
Here's the description of the new reels.
Equipped with the new Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement, Propulsion Line Management System and Aero Wrap II, the Stradic FI brings a new standard to the word durability. Featuring a Waterproof Drag system, Shielded A-RB Bearings, and sizes up to 8000, there aen't many fish the Stradic FI can't handle. And to prolong the life of your reel, the Stradic is equipped ith a repairable drag clicker and maintenance port that make it easier to take care of your investment.
Features:
Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement Spinning Using a special cold forged aluminum drive gear and a hardened brass pinion gear, reels equipped with the Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement will retain their out-of-the-box smoothness much longer than before. In fact, testing has shown that this combination of metals is more durable than an all-stainless steel drivetrain while maintaining the smoothness that Shimano is famous for.
Propulsion Line management system The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion spool lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations it has been determined that this new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming. It also allows the line to flow off of the spool in smaller loops during the cast which means less slap on the stripper guide. This means longer casts with less friction. The Propulsion spool also utilizes a long stroke design to further enhance the casting distance. Furthermore, there is less bouncing of the line on the spool lip like on a standard spinning spool. Because of the unique shape of the Propulsion spool, the line flows consistently off of the spool. So, with a standard spool, friction alternates from heavy to light as the line slaps the spool lip. This causes backlash and inconsistent line speeds. The Propulsion spool lip provides consistently light friction to overcome these situations.
The second component of the 5 piece Propulsion Line Management System is the SR One-Piece Bail Wire. This feature was first introduced on the Stella FB and allows the line to travel unimpeded to the line roller. Its seamless design reduces friction and reduces the chance of tangles or cuts to the bail arm.
The third component of the Propulsion System is the oversized Power Roller III line roller. This specially grooved line roller is designed to reduce twist caused by repetitive casting and retrieving, and its large diameter assists in reducing friction and line memory.
The fourth component of the Propulsion System is a redesigned bail trip mechanism. This bail trip allows the angler to easily trip the bail by turning the handle, while reducing the chance of the bail closing during the cast prematurely.
The final component of the Propulsion System is the S-Arm Cam. This protruding surface on the bail arm serves to keep the line in contact with the line roller even in slack line fishing such as vertical jigging or drop-shotting. So, once the line gets to the roller, the cam keeps the line in place, rather than allowing it to fall back off onto the bail wire which would increase the risk of knots, loops or tangles.
Aero Wrap II Oscillation System Aero Wrap II is a worm gear oscillation system with a specially designed pitch to create optimal oscillation speeds for the Propulsion Spool Lip design. It provides uniform line lay and winding shape to prevent loss of energy during the cast while providing longer casts than other oscillation systems. So, casting distance increases with less effort required. (Aero Wrap II is not available on Saros reels, which are equipped with Slow Oscillation.)
The SR-Concept The SR-Concept combines the new concept of Reliance with all aspects of the S-Concept: Smooth, Silent and Strong. The Reliance Concept, or RConcept, means that dreams in reel design are now evolving into reality. The result of the use of the new SR Concept in design is the development of many exciting new features.
SR-3D Gear This oversized drive gear was designed with three-dimensional analysis. This allows the surface of each tooth to be contoured exactly to the tooth shape of the pinion gear. The result is more tooth surface of the drive gear is in contact with the tooth surface of the pinion gear. Smoothness, torque, efficiency and durability are all increased.
SR Handle This handle screws directly into the drive gear, resulting in zero play between the handle and gear. The 1000 size handle is a very thin solid shank, while the larger sizes use a hollow handle shank, that reduces weight while maintaining extremely strong and durable properties.
SR One-Piece Bail This one-piece bail wire has no gap for line to snag on during normal operation. Made of stainless steel, it reduces friction and allows the line to get onto the line roller quicker.
S A-RB (Shielded A-RB) Ball Bearings These shielded A-RB bearings use either a rubber shield or stainless steel shield (depending on bearing size) for the ultimate in corrosion resistance and contaminant protection.

S-Concept Represents Shimanos initial philosophy on which many of our spinning reels have been designed. The three basic ideas that are inherent in the S-Concept are Smooth, Silent and Strong.
S-Rotor Compact and lightweight to ensure a comfortable retrieve.
S-Guard Protects the body of the reel from impact damage.
S-Arm Cam A protruding surface on the bail arm keeps slack line in contact with the line roller to reduce the chance of tangles and line cuts.
Machined Aluminum Handle Saltwater and Freshwater Spinning For increased strength and power.
Direct Drive Mechanism (Thread Handle Attachment) The drive gear is directly attached to the handle, which means power is transmitted more efficiently with less vibration while increasing durability.
Septon® Handle Grips This handle grip material is soft to the touch and does not get slippery when wet.
WP Drag (Waterproof Drag)
Maintenance Port A sealed plug that can be removed using a screwdriver to easily lubricate the drivetrain without disassembling the reel.
Fluidrive II Saltwater and Freshwater Spinning Building upon the successes of Fluidrive, which provides extremely tight tolerances and control in the cutting process, Fluidrive II polishes the gear surface to maximize tooth contact. This increases the efficiency of the retrieve for more power with less effort.
Floating Shaft Saltwater and Freshwater Spinning With this feature, using a bearing or bushing, friction is reduced between the pinion gear and spool shaft for increased smoothness and durability.
Dyna-Balance Saltwater and Freshwater Spinning This feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counterbalancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, we are able to redistribute the rotor weight to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations caused by the reel.
Super Stopper II Spinning Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way roller bearing that eliminates backplay. This provides the angler with instant hooksetting power. In some reels, the Super Stopper II can be turned off to allow backreeling for special techniques and situations.
Repairable Clicker
Stopperless Design (6000 and 8000 sizes only) means there is no anti-reverse switch. This means that Stopperless Designed reels offer maximum protection against dust and water intrusion.

Josh
